Before and after

That's right, five days before Christmas we took our Christmas tree down for good. We knew that those kitties might be up to no good in it when we weren't looking, and we couldn't take the chance that they'd get hurt. Also, it would be nice to salvage what few lights still work. I thought Nora might be rather interested, but never expected those kittens to get such a daily case of jungle fever over it. Sheesh!

Nobody bought the little Christmas tree that Carrie gave us when Ian and I got married and she and her husband got a big one. It's still in our garage from the "yard sale". I think we'll be using that mini tree from here on out until we have cats that sleep, like, 23 hours a day.

I've been wanting to take down our tree too. We put it up way too early, right after Thanksgiving. Now I want the light from the window back, the space back, and for everything not to look so cluttered! But I don't have cats, so I will wait until after Christmas.

What a shame, such a lovely tree, too!

Maybe next year you can get a tabletop tree. Laura gave me one once. It was a rosemary bush trimmed into a Christmas tree shape. Use it as a centerpiece and lay alumnium foil around it. I heard kitties don't like stepping on foil.

We were having so much fun decking it out in handmade stuff this year, too. Paper chain, woven hearts, cinnamon ornaments... but every time we added a new element, those kittens just got a little crazier. They completely ruined the felt tree skirt.

Carrie's tabletop tree is exactly what we'll use in the future, Debbie. And thanks for the tip regarding foil!
