Fiona works with one hammer, one hammer, one hammer
Fiona, Nora and I went to our local Home Depot this morning for our first Kids Workshop. A staffer handed Fiona her own orange apron and a kit, then we sat down on large overturned orange buckets at a table and got started reading the instructions to make an herb planter together.
Fiona sanded and hammered. Then she filled pots with moistened soil disks and planted basil, chives, and parsley. In the meantime Nora played a toddler version of the shell game by overturning her flowerpots on the tray of her stroller, then dropping them onto the floor one by one as shouts of "Uh-oh!" bounced off the concrete floors of the big-box hardware store.
When we finished, Fiona got pins to affix to her work apron, and we decided to wander through the nursery to get a preview of what our full-grown herbs will look like. Our senses also delighted in herbs and flowers of many shapes, sizes, colors, textures, and scents.
Fiona thought the goggles were a bit itchy around the nose, but overall I think she was sold on the whole process; we're already signed up to make a biplane next month. I'm sure Nora will find something to merrily drop onto the floor then, too.
